New trail add ons for 2007

That's right it's almost 2007. I've been working on a few ideas for trails in both Oleson and Loomis.
First in Oleson will be a 1500 to 2000ft loop behind the pool area in the timber. Our Sept. 16th race will be staged from the pool area and timed from behind the pool in the open shelter. This will make the playground more accessable for the kids and the use off the bathrooms and shower in the pool area for all. Also parking will be right up front.
Then in Loomis Park I am working with the city on a reconection plan of the upper Loomis trail. This section will take you from the south end of Loomis by Amigos in to the park on a sweet piece of single track with an awesome view from the top.

More to come in the future. Stay tuned!

Iowa Games XC

Thanks to all who made the Iowa Games mountain bike race great. We had a really good time. Myself I had an awesome time with a 1st place in my age group and 6th place in the overall. Something felt really different this time. My first race of the season and I ran as hard at the finish as I did at the start. The running has been really helping out.
Next week it's down to the Circus for a little time trial. Looking forward to that. They always put on a great event.

Sugar Bottom Scandal

I hope the Sugar Bottom Fun ride goes well. It's sad to see the real race get tanked. But that's the way it goes. Ive heard that they could not make any money at that event? At $35 a rider I really do not understand that. The boys at boone make ends meet even after they pay seven oaks for use of the trails. They may not make much but they also do it because they love the the sport. That's saying alot! We get buy in Fort Dodge. After paying off my young event staff with a small donation, paying insurance and covering my misc expences we still come out with money to donate to local causes. We give to causes such as the Oleson Park Zoo, IMBA and this season we are helping the Central Iowa Humaine Society.
If ICOR is making $35 a rider with maybe 85 riders their pulling down a $2900. Got me but that's some good cash. But I can see making it a money thing. $35 entry is way to much! Hopefully they get things figured out?

Well back to work.
Have a great weekend all.

On to the next race

Well we had a great turn out Sunday. A large Sport and Expert class and a few new lady racers. The day was hot but not as bad as forecast. We had a few small issues that caused an extra wait for results but all in all when things were finished we had a great day.
Thank you to all the racers and their family's and all of my friends and family for there help.
Also a big thank you to Fort Dodge Parks and Recreation Dept. For the use of these great parks and there help.
Plus a big thank you to IORCA & IMBS for making off road cycling a better thing in Iowa. Also all the sponsors who support the teams, events and series.

Sunday Trail Work

All has went as planned. The Oleson Park trail south of the Band Shell is complete. Weeded, trees trimmed and downed trees cut and moved. The far south section loop which I built quite a few years back is becoming a small obstacle course, with five small log obstacles. But most of them will have an optional route around for hikers and beginner cyclist. I also added about a 1000 feet to one area due to Parks and Rec backfilling an area will tree waste. Worked out very well.
also in the near future we will be installing a trail marking system in the park. With all the service roads it gets hard to navigate the course if your new to the area.
I also did ride the course when finished and I can say it's a lot of fun. Even though I have been dealing with heat exhaustion from yesterdays trail work and trail run.

Trail work and Ride

I believe i'll have to go to the trail today and finish every thing o the south side and maybe do a little ride.
Should be a good day to get the road bike out to? Maybe some beer? Ride then beer? Cool!

Bike Build?

Time to get a new set of wheels under me this year. What to do? Used, New, or build from scratch?
I am thinking build. Most of the time I refit my ride whith all the parts I want after I buy it.
So I am thinking of going with a new Cinelli mtb frame and having the fellos at Rassy's build her up from there. We'll have to wait and see.

Looking forward to racing a few more times this season and also putting on our events. This year I will be working with my son Adam on our local events and hopefully pass things on to him down the road when he is older. Time will tell.
Back running again and planning on doing the Dam to Dam. That should be interesting.
I believe after a partial hiatas from every thing last season I have my MoJo back.

we till next time
